Ballinger’s Louis Meilink, Jr., FAIA, FACHA, ACHE and Thomas J. Parr Jr., AIA accepted the award alongside Rich Lewis of Bryan Health.
The Healthcare Environment Awards celebrate how thoughtful design can improve safety, enhance experiences, increase organizational efficiency, and improve health outcomes. The jury—made up of academics, architects, designers, healthcare executives, planners, facility executives, patient and family advisors, and researchers—appreciated Ballinger’s rigorous evidence-based and interdisciplinary design approach.
The April Sampson Cancer Center—a partnership between Bryan Health and Cancer Partners of Nebraska—combines cutting-edge treatment capabilities with a calming, nature-inspired environment. Opened in 2024, the center is thoughtfully designed to blend with its natural surroundings, embracing the site’s meadows, woods, and water features. Inside, warm and inviting interiors foster a healing environment that nurtures the well-being of patients, caregivers, and visitors, while meeting rigorous clinical and operational demands.
