Ballinger Signs AIA Architecture & Design Materials Pledge
Share
In alignment with our long-standing commitment to resource stewardship, Ballinger recently signed the AIA Architecture & Design Materials Pledge. By signing this pledge, we join over 270 leading firms dedicated to advancing the use of materials that promote human, climate, ecosystem, and social health.
At Ballinger we believe a more prosperous future is contingent on a healthy and resilient world. We have a responsibility to apply our expertise and ingenuity to design the most sustainable buildings possible. Our ongoing commitments, including the 2030 Commitment, Architects Declare, MEP 2040, and SE 2050, reflect our dedication to reducing the environmental impact of the built environment. Now, with the AIA Architecture & Design Materials Pledge, we’re taking another step toward ensuring that the materials we select support the health of both people and the planet.
With this commitment, we pledge:
- To support human health by preferring materials and products that support and foster life throughout their life cycles and seek to eliminate the use of hazardous substances.
- To support social health and equity by preferring materials and products from manufacturers who secure human rights in their own operations and in their supply chains, and which provide positive impacts for their workers and the communities where they operate.
- To support ecosystem health by preferring materials and products that support and regenerate the natural air, water, and biological cycles of life through thoughtful supply chain management and restorative company practices.
- To support climate health by preferring materials and products that reduce carbon emissions and ultimately sequester more carbon than emitted.
- To support a circular economy by reusing and improving buildings, and by designing for resiliency, adaptability, disassembly, and reuse – aspiring to a zero-waste goal for global construction activities.
