Share
The April Sampson Cancer Center, designed by Ballinger, was recognized as the winner of the Healthcare Environment Award from the Center for Health Design. Located in Lincoln, Nebraska, this state-of-the-art center—a partnership between Bryan Health and Cancer Partners of Nebraska—combines cutting-edge treatment capabilities with a calming, nature-inspired environment. Opened in 2024, the center is thoughtfully designed to blend with its natural surroundings, embracing the site’s meadows, woods, and water features. Inside, warm and inviting interiors foster a healing environment that nurtures the well-being of patients, caregivers, and visitors, while meeting rigorous clinical and operational demands.
The Healthcare Environment Awards celebrate exemplary healthcare design that improves safety, enhances experiences, increases organizational efficiency, and improves outcomes. The program is administered by the Center for Health Design, a non-profit organization advancing an evidence-based design process to improve healthcare. Award winners were selected by an esteemed jury of academics, designers, executives, patient and family advisors, and researchers. The award will be presented at the 2025 PDC Summit in Atlanta, Georgia in March.
