Ballinger Senior Principal Louis A. Meilink, Jr., FAIA, FACHA, ACHE and Interior Designer Morgan Garrett will present “Vital Design Studio: Bridging Theory and Practice for Improving Population Health through Design” at this year’s Healthcare Design Conference, which will take place October 5-8 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Vital Design Studio is an interdisciplinary 5th year course at Kansas State University’s College of Architecture, Planning & Design. It explores the relationship between population health and the built environment, bringing together architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design students to work collaboratively in a dynamic setting. Lou and Morgan will be joined by Assistant Professor Kendra Kirchmer, IDSA, who teaches the studio and has conducted research to measure the impact of the program on students.

Recently, the studio has focused its real-world application of pedagogy on neighborhoods in Philadelphia, with students traveling from Kansas to Ballinger’s office for a series of charettes and focused mentorship sessions.
