Inspiring Future Engineers

Ballinger was proud to participate in the annual Future City Competition, an educational engineering program for middle-school students to imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future. Using the engineering design process as a framework, student teams design a city and describe it through an essay, scale model, and presentation. This year’s theme, Farm to Table, challenged students to eliminate food waste from farm to table and keep citizens healthy and safe.
Ballinger sponsored the Philadelphia program and staff members served as volunteer judges for the competition. Ballinger’s Net Zero Carbon Design Award, which recognizes innovative student solutions that prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility, was awarded to St. Anastasia School.
“Growing up with an interest in architecture and engineering, youth competitions shaped how I learned design and collaboration. Serving as a special awards evaluator was a meaningful way to give back that left me just as inspired as the students.”
