On Tuesday, September 2nd the City of Philadelphia held a groundbreaking ceremony for the North Central Public Safety Building (NCPSB), a 30,600 SF facility that will accommodate the 22nd Police District and a new Police Athletic League (PAL) Center. The first newly constructed district police station in over two decades, the project also includes new green space, parking, and a fuel station.
“We’re building a place where public safety, opportunity, and community presence all come together.”
Cherelle L. Parker Mayor, City of Philadelphia
Designed by Ballinger, the NCPSB represents a bold investment in community safety and neighborhood revitalization. By bringing police operations and youth programming together in one facility, the project strengthens ties between law enforcement and the community while supporting young people in the neighborhood.
The building’s east side will be a PAL Center, with a full-size gymnasium, classrooms, and a shared community room for events and neighborhood programming. The west side will house the 22nd Police District, providing officers with a modern facility to support responsive, community-focused policing.
The ceremony was attended by Ballinger’s Nick Brown and officials including Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Commissioner Kevin Bethel, Councilmember Jeffrey Young Jr., and community members.
“This building will stand as a symbol of partnership between our officers, our neighbors, and our youth – and as a reminder that real public safety is built on prevention, intervention, and community trust.”
Kevin J. Bethel City of Philadelphia Police Commissioner
