The University of Maryland, Baltimore has selected Ballinger to design a new flagship building for its School of Social Work. This state-of-the-art, six-story building will unite programs currently spread across six buildings. The building will not only stand as a beacon of sustainability and innovation, but also will serve as a nurturing environment that encourages academic exploration, community interaction, and collective growth.
Sited to enhance the school’s mission of innovation in community service, the building will create a prominent and welcoming new campus entry point. In addition to indoor instruction, research, and collaboration space, there will also be an elevated outdoor space for special events and socialization.
Ballinger is designing the building’s systems for net–zero emissions. Sustainable systems highlights include a green roof-mounted photovoltaic panel array, ground source heat pumps, chilled beams, and decoupled dual energy recovery units.
Construction on this future-flexible space is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
