In recognition of the global ASHRAE Technology Award the University of Michigan Kinesiology Building won this year, our innovative design work has been highlighted in the July 2024 issue of ASHRAE Journal. As the realities of reducing carbon emissions become clearer and more pressing, we must design building systems with the future in mind. The key to the team’s successful approach was through decoupled systems that utilize dual energy recovery to eliminate reheat energy, along with local heating and cooling technology. This significantly reduces overall energy usage and use of fossil fuels.
