The new STEM building at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) reached a milestone on May 4. A beam signing and “Topping Out” ceremony marked the placing of the last beam of the structure. The beam was signed by Dr. Michael Rao, President of VCU, and Dr. Jennifer Malat, Dean of the College of Humanities and Sciences, as well as members of the VCU community and design and construction team. Scheduled to open in 2023, the STEM building will be the crossroads of instruction, collaboration and discovery for the sciences at VCU. Ballinger and Quinn Evans designed the building, with Ballinger providing architecture and MEP engineering services.
