Under a cloudless sky, the final beam of steel was placed onto the structural frame of Kiewit Hall, future home of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Engineering. Ballinger and partner architect Clark & Enersen designed Kiewit Hall , as an interdisciplinary hub for establishing a new identity of UNL Engineering. “I was incredibly honored to be invited to celebrate the project milestone and to meet the project stakeholders in-person after years of remote collaboration,” said Ballinger Associate Principal Rich Dengler. “The University’s excitement for the project is palpable and you very much get the sense that Kiewit Hall will represent a paradigm shift for the College of Engineering.” Kiewit Hall will serve as the academic hub for undergraduate engineering education and house Lincoln-based construction management programs. The building includes classrooms, instructional labs, student services, maker spaces for the college’s student organizations, and a large outdoor plaza for the university community. It is slated to open in early 2024.
